Learn A New Language By Watching These Movies And Shows on Netflix

Netflix (just don’t fall asleep) is a part of almost everyone’s routine today. But did you know that Netflix is actually a great tool for you to learn all kind of foreign languages? Here are some of the most popular foreign shows on Netflix.

Let us introduce you our Top picks:

Spanish – Elite (Élite)

Elite is Spanish teen drama thriller following students at an elite secondary school and their friends. Samuel, Nadia and Christian were given scholarships to Las Encinas, the most exclusive private school in Spain, where the elites send their kids to study. As the school year progresses, their lives intertwine in a clash of lifestyles, resentments, envy, and sexual attraction. Through a series of flash-forward scenes of police interrogations, the audience is shown stories of the character’s relationships that somehow lead to a murder.

After the revelation of the murder, the second season deals with how these relationships and flash forward scenes are shown to find out about the disappearance of a student and how it is linked to the plot of getting the murderer to pay their price.

Cable Girls (Las chicas del cable)

Cable Girls is a Spanish period drama. In 1928, a modern telecommunications company begins to operate in Madrid. The series tells the turn in life that four young women take when they start working for this company. The four of them feel attached in different ways, to their families, their partners, or their memories. Part of the focus of the show is the hardships working women faced in the 1920s.

French – I Am Not an Easy Man (Je ne suis pas un homme facile)

I Am Not an Easy Man is a French romantic comedy that put an interesting twist in promoting feminism. Damien is a shameless chauvinist who has all the benefits of living in a patriarchal society. After a bump to the head, Damien passes out. When he wakes up, he finds himself in what seems to be an alternate universe where gender roles are reversed and women have the power. Damien, confused, now that he experiences sexism himself, struggles to find his place in this foreign new world, and seduce Alexandra, a (female) chauvinist herself and influential novelist in this female-dominated world.

Paris is Us (Paris est à nous)

Paris is us is a French thriller. The movie reviews the thoughts of Anna and her relationship with Greg in Paris. After some years of dating Greg has plans to go to Barcelona to work as an air traffic controller. He is unhappy with Anna’s lack of ambition while she is satisfied with her job as a waitress in Paris. Greg wants Anna to come with him to Barcelona but she initially refuses. One day a plane en route to Barcelona crashes and Anna wonders what if she would’ve been on that plane on her way to visit Greg? Maybe she was. Did terrorism take down the plane and change lives and relationships of so many? What is real and what if life’s being controlled by an outside force? Are feelings like love real or only an image on a screen? Is Anna alone or did she have a loving caring relationship with Greg? Let it all be like it was before if it really was lived.

Italian & French –Call Me by Your Name

Everyone should have heard about this Oscar winner before. I became a huge fan of Timothée Chalamet after watching this movie. Call Me by Your Name is a 2017 coming-of-age movie. t is the summer of 1983. Elio, a 17-year-old Jewish-American, lives with his parents in rural northern Italy. Elio’s father, a professor of archaeology, invites a 24-year-old graduate student, Oliver, who is also Jewish-American, to live with the family over the summer and help with his academic paperwork. Elio, an introspective bibliophile and a talented musician, initially thinks he has little in common with Oliver, who has a carefree and exuberant personality. Elio resents having to give up his bedroom to Oliver for the duration of his stay, and spends much of the summer reading, playing piano, and hanging out with his girlfriend, Marzia. Meanwhile, Oliver admits being attracted to one of the local girls, much to Elio’s annoyance. They eventually fell in love but during Hanukkah, Oliver calls Elio’s family to tell them he is engaged to be married. He tells Elio he remembers everything very clearly. After the call, Elio stares into a fireplace, crying and reminiscing, as his parents and the house staff prepare a holiday dinner.
